The Criminal High Court has adjourned the case of The Republic v. Charles Bissue & Others (CR/0559/2025) to November 19, 2025, following arguments on a motion concerning whether the State’s first witness should testify in camera.
The adjournment allows the court to consider an objection raised by the first accused, Charles Cromwell Nanabayin Onuawonto Bissue, who opposes the State’s request for the undercover journalist to give evidence behind closed doors.
Mr. Bissue, the former Secretary to the now-dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), is standing trial alongside two others. They are accused of accepting bribes and other illicit benefits to facilitate the issuance of a mining concession sticker for an unlicensed company.
The accused face six counts of using public office for profit and three counts of corruption by a public officer. The court is expected to rule on the objection when proceedings resume on November 19.
