The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Joseph Awal Antwi, has announced that the assembly is preparing to prosecute sanitation offenders following the passage of new by-laws.
The announcement came during a national sanitation exercise carried out in collaboration with several agencies, including the military, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, and the Ghana National Fire Service.
Their collective presence underscored the importance of addressing sanitation challenges in the municipality to combat diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and malaria.
Speaking during the exercise, the MCE highlighted that the initiative aligns with the President’s vision to tackle sanitation issues nationwide. He urged residents of Nkwanta South to take sanitation seriously for the betterment of their environment.
Mr. Antwi also encouraged the public to embrace peace, stressing that harmony is essential for community development. He reassured residents that the assembly is implementing measures to ensure stability and internal peace in the municipality.
Geoffrey Kini, Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South, praised residents for their enthusiastic participation in the exercise. He emphasized the importance of personal hygiene and sanitation and called on everyone to do their part.
Mr. Kini further directed environmental sanitation officers to enforce the newly established by-laws and prosecute anyone found violating them.
Rev. Father Prosper Anebo, a Catholic priest in Nkwanta, who also participated in the exercise, appealed to the assembly to impose penalties that would encourage greater community participation in sanitation efforts.
He stressed the need for all community members to take personal hygiene seriously, expressing strong opposition to negligence in cleanliness.
