The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Engineering Council, has provided an official update on the construction incident that occurred at Roman Ridge on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Dr. Michael Mensah clarified that, contrary to initial reports, there was no structural collapse of a 10-storey building. He explained that the incident involved the partial collapse of a first-floor podium concrete slab that was being cast at the time.

Dr. Mensah disclosed that 14 construction workers were injured and immediately transported to the 37 Military Hospital and Ridge Hospital for medical care.

As of Wednesday morning, 12 of the injured had been treated and discharged, while two remain in stable condition at Ridge Hospital.

He commended emergency response teams for their swift intervention and extended best wishes for the full recovery of all affected workers.

To determine the cause of the incident and recommend preventive measures, Dr. Mensah announced the formation of a seven-member independent investigative committee.

The committee, which begins work on Thursday, October 30, 2025, is expected to complete its task within two weeks.

The committee comprises members from the Engineering Council, Architects Registration Council, NADMO, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly.

Its mandate is to conduct a transparent and professional investigation to establish the root cause of the partial collapse and propose measures to enhance construction safety and compliance.

Dr. Mensah also reaffirmed that Devtraco Plus Limited, the developer of the project, was operating with a valid building permit issued by the Assembly.

“I want to make it clear that the developers, Devtraco Plus Limited, had a valid building permit issued by the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly before the commencement of the project. The Assembly ensures that all developments within its jurisdiction follow due process and meet the required safety standards,” he said.

He further emphasized that all work at the affected site has been halted pending the outcome of the investigation.

“The committee’s findings will guide our next steps. A comprehensive public report will be issued upon completion of their work to ensure transparency and public trust,” Dr. Mensah added.

He also urged the public and media to rely on verified information from official sources, assuring that the Assembly remains committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, accountability, and transparency in all construction activities within the municipality.
