Self-acclaimed Queen of Ghana music, Wendy Shay, has revealed the depth of her friendship with Dancehall star Shatta Wale, describing their relationship as more than just industry collaboration.
Speaking on Joy Prime to promote her latest album Ready, Wendy said she has been fortunate to witness Shatta’s true personality, which contrasts sharply with his fiery stage persona.
She described him as a “genius and a sweet boy,” highlighting the calm, creative side of the Ayoo crooner that fans rarely see.
Recalling their first studio session for their hit collaboration Stevie Wonder, Wendy said: “The Shatta I met that day wasn’t the bold, loud performer everyone sees on stage. He was just himself, a cutie, honestly—lost in his creativity and so passionate about every lyric and beat.”
Since then, she said, she has seen a different side of him, which has strengthened their bond. This connection goes beyond music, with Shatta Wale later gifting Wendy Shay and Rufftown Records the mechanical rights to both Stevie Wonder and H.I.T, a rare gesture of generosity in the industry.
Their friendship, built on mutual respect and artistry, continues to be one of Ghana’s most celebrated collaborations.
