The Cape Coast Circuit Court 2, presided over by Her Honour Nana Aba Quaiba Nunoo, has sentenced 49-year-old fisherman Samuel Armah to 10 years in prison for defiling a 13-year-old girl at Mumford in the Central Region.
Mr. Armah, a father of nine, was convicted after pleading guilty to the charge of defilement, contrary to Section 101(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The incident took place in a ghetto at Mumford, where the accused lured and sexually assaulted the victim after accusing her of stealing GH₵60.
According to Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Entie, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, the prosecution presented evidence confirming the act, leading the accused to admit guilt before the court.
The presiding judge described the act as “shameful and inhumane,” stressing the need for deterrent sentences in cases involving minors.
