2026 WAFCONQ: It’s an amazing result – Kim Lars Bjorkegren after Black Queens’ win over Egypt

-

Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has praised his side following their resounding win over Egypt in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana recorded a 3-0 win over the Cleopatras in the first leg of the qualifiers on Thursday evening with Doris Boaduwaa, Mary Amponsah, and Grace Asantewaa finding the back of the net to seal a commanding win for the visitors.

Speaking after the match, Bjorkegren expressed delight at the result, acknowledging some early struggles but praising the team’s overall display.

“You can see that we haven’t been together for a while. It doesn’t connect like it did a couple of months ago. But the energy was there, I believe that we did a lot of good things, and in the end, we did well,” he said.

Bjorkegren described the win as a significant step toward securing qualification for next year’s tournament in Morocco.

“In the end, a difficult away game we won 3-0. The result is amazing. It’s put us in a good position to make sure that we make the next AFCON,” Bjorkegren said.

The return leg is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, at Accra’s Ohene Gyan Stadium. The winner of the tie will earn a place in the 2026 WAFCON.
