Akufo-Addo eulogises Nana Konadu as role model for women in Ghana and across Africa

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has paid tribute to the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a true inspiration and a shining example for women in Ghana and across the African continent.

Sharing his message on X (formerly Twitter), the former President said he and his wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, were devastated by the news of her death.

“My wife Rebecca and I are deeply saddened by the news of the untimely passing of the wife of the late first President of the Fourth Republic, His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings — the longest-serving First Lady in our history and the Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, H.E. Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings,” he wrote.

Reflecting on her legacy, Mr. Akufo-Addo praised the former First Lady for her unwavering commitment to gender equality and her role in advancing the status of women in Ghana.

“As a role model for women in Ghana and across Africa, Mrs. Rawlings’ advocacy for gender equality and women’s empowerment remains impactful to this day. Her dedication to strengthening the women’s movement in Ghana and Africa will never be forgotten,” he noted.

He further described her as “a warm and affectionate woman, full of humour and a joy to be around,” recalling her personable nature and contributions to national development.

The former President extended his condolences to the Rawlings family, particularly her children, urging them to take comfort in her enduring influence and legacy.



“Rebecca, my children and I extend our deepest condolences to her children and family on this sad occasion. May her soul rest peacefully in the bosom of the Almighty until the Day of Resurrection when we shall meet again,” he concluded.
