Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has stirred social media after passionately defending fellow actress Regina Daniels amid ongoing discussions about alleged domestic violence in her marriage.
In a video message addressing the public, Jegede expressed disappointment in those mocking Regina instead of showing empathy, stressing that no amount of wealth or social status justifies staying in a violent marriage.
She questioned the hypocrisy of those who downplay abuse simply because the victim is married to a wealthy or influential man, asking if the situation would be viewed differently had the abuser been poor.
Yvonne cited examples of women who have suffered abuse from partners of all backgrounds, adding that violence is unacceptable regardless of financial standing.
The actress also criticized some senior colleagues who once played motherly roles to Regina in films but have chosen to laugh at her alleged predicament online, calling their behavior shameful.
She asserted that every individual has a story and should not be ridiculed for their personal struggles.
She reiterated that once violence enters a relationship, the best decision is to leave, whether male or female, for the sake of one’s safety and mental health.
Yvonne Jegede further encouraged victims of abuse to prioritize their lives over public perception, stressing that it is better to “live to tell the story than stay and die.”
