Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has admitted that costly mistakes were to blame for his side’s defeat to Wydad Athletic Club in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Porcupine Warriors fell 1-0 to the Moroccan giants in the first leg of the second round of the preliminary stage on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
A decisive second-half strike from Joseph Bakasu handed Wydad the advantage ahead of the return leg in Casablanca.
Speaking after the match, Zito conceded that individual and tactical errors proved costly for his team.
“This is the game of football, sometimes certain things happen beyond your control. I think along the line there were some mistakes that affected us,” he said.
Despite the setback, the experienced coach remains optimistic about Kotoko’s chances in the return leg.
“Anything can happen when we go there and we are not going there as losers but we are going there to play well and play better than what we did here,” Zito added.
Asante Kotoko will travel to Morocco for the decisive second leg on Friday, October 24, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
