The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has confirmed that a section of the 161 kV Aboadze–Tarkwa transmission line, operated by the Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo), has been damaged, a development that could temporarily affect electricity supply in parts of the Western and Ashanti Regions.
In a statement issued in Accra, the Ministry said a maintenance team had been dispatched to the affected site to begin urgent repair works.
“The maintenance team has been swiftly deployed and is currently at the location, working diligently to repair the line as quickly as possible,” the statement read.
The Ministry added that technical assessments are ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage and restore transmission capacity in the shortest possible time.
According to the statement, preliminary analysis indicates that areas such as Kumasi and Tarkwa may experience temporary disruptions in power supply while the repair works continue.
“The analysis also highlights the possibility of power supply disruption in parts of the Western and Ashanti Regions within this short period, precisely Kumasi and Tarkwa,” it explained.
The Ministry expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that every effort is being made to restore normal service.
“We wish to assure the general public that every effort is being made to repair the damage and normalise the situation,” it said, adding that the Ministry remains committed to ensuring a stable and reliable power supply across the country.
