Six including infant hit by stray bullets at Kwabenakwa

-

Six people, including a baby less than a year old, sustained gunshot wounds after a celebratory shooting incident at Kwabenakwa in the Obuasi East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred after a court ruling on a long-standing chieftaincy dispute was delivered in favour of one of the contending families.

Following the verdict, some jubilant relatives reportedly took to the streets in a Pragyia, firing gunshots into the air to celebrate their victory.

One of the perpetrators, identified as Kofi Cole, is alleged to have fired several rounds, some of which struck six innocent residents, including the infant.

Eyewitnesses told Adom News’ Isaac K. Normanyo that the shooting caused panic in the community, as residents fled for safety. The injured were later rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Assembly Member for Kwabenakwa, Charles Abu, confirmed the incident and described it as “a tragic case of reckless jubilation that nearly cost innocent lives.”

Police have since launched an investigation into the matter, while calm has been restored to the area.
