Arrogance of power destroys parties — Kamal-Deen warns NPP aspirants

Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kamal-Deen Abdulai, has warned members and aspirants within the party against arrogance and divisive language as the NPP prepares to elect its next flagbearer.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Kamal-Deen urged aspirants to conduct their campaigns with respect and unity, reminding them that in every internal contest, only one person will emerge as the winner.

“They should take a cue from the NPP’s own experience and learn that arrogance of power is negative to the growth of a political party,” he said.

“All those contesting for the flagbearer position are qualified, but we shouldn’t do anything that will damage the party collectively.”

He emphasized the importance of consistent leadership and internal cohesion, pointing to how the National Democratic Congress (NDC) deliberately built around John Mahama, leading to his eventual return to power.

“The goodwill the NDC is enjoying today was equally enjoyed by the NPP in 2017. There is wisdom in consistency,” he noted.

Kamal-Deen also cautioned communicators for the various aspirants to be mindful of their language.

He also stressed that complacency and internal attacks could weaken the party ahead of the 2028 elections.

“There is wisdom in consistency. Those aspiring for the NPP flagbearership should not become complacent, as it can be detrimental. Believing you have already won and neglecting to work harder can lead to failure. Additionally, the communicators for the various aspirants should be mindful of their tone when talking about the party,” he said.
