The Ahafo Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Nana Adu Bonsu Gabriel, has appealed to stakeholders to support the establishment of a disaster response fund to enhance disaster preparedness and recovery efforts across the region.
He was speaking to Adom News at Goaso during the commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, themed “Fund Resilience, Not Disaster.”
Mr. Bonsu emphasized that such a fund would enable NADMO to conduct regular public education campaigns and respond more effectively to disaster-related emergencies.
He noted that NADMO’s operations have been hampered by inadequate resources, making it difficult to provide timely relief and preventive measures.
“For years, NADMO has struggled with limited logistics and funds. Establishing a regional fund will help us sensitise communities and support victims promptly when disasters occur,” he said.
Mr. Bonsu called on regional and local authorities, traditional leaders, religious institutions, civil society organizations, and corporate bodies to contribute to the proposed fund, stressing that disaster prevention and management require a collective approach.
Chairing the event, the Paramount Queen Mother of Goaso, Nana Afia Serwaa, commended NADMO’s initiative and urged residents to avoid practices that increase disaster risks, such as dumping refuse in drains, deforestation, and building on waterways.
She also encouraged collaboration among all stakeholders to strengthen disaster resilience and protect lives and property in the Ahafo Region.
