Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has celebrated the qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a ‘big achievement’.
Ghana secured their place at next year’s tournament following a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium, courtesy of a 47th-minute strike from Mohammed Kudus.
The win saw the Black Stars finish top of Group I, clinching an automatic berth to the World Cup in North America.
With this qualification, Addo has become the first coach in Ghanaian football history to lead the national team to consecutive World Cup tournaments, having also guided the Black Stars to Qatar 2022.
Speaking after the match, Addo acknowledged the personal significance of the achievement but highlighted the collective effort behind it.
“For me, personally, surely it’s [qualifying for the World Cup twice in a row] a big achievement,” Addo said after the game. “But to be honest, I think more about us.”
The 49-year-old coach praised everyone involved in the campaign, underlining the unity and commitment that carried Ghana through the qualifiers.
“It’s good for us, for everyone, for every Ghanaian. It’s good for the players, not only for me, so this is the most important thing,” he added.
The achievement has drawn widespread acclaim, including a congratulatory message from FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who praised Ghana’s passion and enduring contribution to global football.
Ghana, four-time African champions, will make their fifth appearance at football’s biggest stage since debuting in 2006.
Attention now shifts to preparations for the 2026 World Cup, with the official draw scheduled for December 5, 2025, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
Following their group-stage exit in Qatar, the Black Stars will be eager to advance further and make a stronger impact at next year’s tournament.
