Police arrest 2 suspects over alleged plot to assassinate chief

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly plotting to assassinate the Akyem Kwabeng Chief and Okyeman Gyaasehene, Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamato II.

The suspects, identified as Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth, were arrested following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered a plan to eliminate the chief ahead of his maiden royal durbar, scheduled for October 17, 2025, at Akyem Kwabeng.

According to police sources, intelligence gathered on October 11, 2025, revealed that the suspects were conspiring to execute the chief and another woman allegedly set to be installed as queen mother. A special police intelligence team subsequently infiltrated their network to prevent the attack.

During the operation, suspect Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GH₵50,000 to undercover officers to carry out the assassination and promised an additional GH₵50,000 after the act.

She also instructed her accomplice, Butuakwa Seth, to help identify the residences of the intended victims.

Police investigations indicate that Butuakwa Seth led the officers to both the chief’s and the woman’s homes and even provided a photograph of the chief to aid in the planned crime.

The timely intervention of the police prevented what could have been a tragic event.

Both suspects are currently in custody, assisting with further investigations, and are expected to be arraigned before court soon.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has assured the public of its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, particularly traditional leaders in the region.
