Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has reflected on Ghana’s shaky start to the ongoing 2025 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championships, attributing it to a loss of structure and composure in their early games.

Ghana opened the competition with a 1-1 draw against Togo before suffering defeat to hosts Ivory Coast in their second group match. The Starlets, however, bounced back strongly with a 3-1 victory in their final group fixture to secure a semifinal berth.

Their resurgence continued with a 2-0 win over Nigeria in the last four, a result that not only booked them a place in Friday’s final but also secured qualification for next year’s U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Speaking to Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Narteh Ogum admitted that the team had to regroup after their early struggles.

“We lost our structure against Togo and Ivory Coast, but we learnt from our mistakes, and our game against Niger was a make-or-break for us, and we were able to do the job,” Nartreh Ogum said.

He credited his technical team, particularly the video analyst, for helping the players adjust.

“The video analyst also pointed out where we needed to improve, and we did exactly that, and we were able to win and make it to the final,” he added.

The Black Starlets will now face Ivory Coast once again in the tournament’s final, setting up a rematch that promises high drama.
