Kumawood star Lil Win has expressed frustration at the National Film Authority (NFA) for conducting its recent National Film Dialogue entirely in English.
According to him, the decision sidelined many Kumawood stakeholders who were more comfortable communicating in Twi.
Speaking after the event, held on the University of Ghana campus, Lil Win said the language barrier prevented several participants from fully engaging in the discussions.
“They spoke English throughout, and Kumawood actors and stakeholders were more. Most of them can’t even speak English, but majority can speak Twi. It would have been more effective if they had two sessions; one in English and another in Twi,” he lamented.
He described the approach as unfair, stressing that he and others with valuable contributions were forced into silence.
“It’s unfair because some of us just sat throughout without understanding or even making a submission, though we had a lot to contribute,” he added.
The National Film Dialogue, an initiative of the NFA, seeks to address pressing issues in Ghana’s film industry and shape policies for its growth.
