Nkosoɔ small-scale miners demand return of seized concession from gov’t

Residents and small-scale miners in Woramumuso, Ahafo Region, are demanding the immediate return of a mining concession they claim was wrongfully taken from them and handed over to a Chinese company.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Nkosoɔ Mining Firm leader, Eric Kofi Amponsah, said that the concession was legitimately granted to them by traditional authorities.

Mr. Amponsah, therefore, questioned why armed security officers were deployed to evict them, destroy property, and cede control to a foreign company, Nadamusa.

“This decision has worsened unemployment in the area and created needless tension,” Amponsah stated.

Some residents also voiced frustration, saying that the Chinese company has not employed locals, leaving businesses struggling and families without income.

The group warned that if government fails to return the concession, they will be forced to confront the situation, a move they caution could lead to serious conflict.
