Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has rolled out an internship initiative aimed at equipping university students in his constituency with practical work experience during the long vacation.
In his announcement, Mr. Dumelo revealed that he had successfully secured internship slots across diverse sectors; from banking and finance to government institutions, as well as leading private firms.
This, he explained, forms part of his broader vision to prepare young people for the competitive job market.
“Please send your applications to johndumelointernships@gmail.com. It’s first come, first served. You know I dey 4 you,” Mr. Dumelo assured.
Beyond the internship drive, Mr. Dumelo also addressed growing public concerns about illegal mining (galamsey), which continues to devastate farmlands and threaten food security.
He recounted a recent working visit to the Brong Ahafo region where distressed farmers complained bitterly about the destruction of their farms and even attacks from illegal miners.
“The galamsey menace is of serious concern. As a matter of fact, I was in Brong Ahafo some weeks ago, and some farmers complained bitterly that illegal miners were destroying their farms and shooting at them. But I know the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources is on top of the galamsey issue,” he noted.
He is confident there will be positive strides soon in the fight against galamsey.
