A 24-year-old auto rickshaw (Pragya) rider, Bernard Kyere, has allegedly been shot dead by unknown assailants at Sofokyere, a suburb of Berekum, in the Bono Region.

The incident, which occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Saturday, has thrown the community into shock.

Chairman of the Auto Rickshaw Riders at the Biadan Station, Nana Yusuf Bakari, told Adom News that he rushed to the scene with police officers to confirm the incident.

He explained that the victim was shot in the head and left lifeless in his tricycle.

According to him, this is the third such attack in the area, warning that if the situation persists, Pragya riders may suspend operations at Sofokyere, especially at night.

The victim’s father, Seth Kyere, expressed shock at his son’s death.

He recounted that Bernard was at home on Friday evening but later received a phone call around 8 p.m. and left with his tricycle.

Believing his son was on his usual night rounds, he went to bed, only to be informed at dawn that Bernard had been killed.

He has since called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Police have deposited the body at the Holy Family Catholic Hospital morgue while investigations continue.
