Market women at the Goaso weekly market in the Ahafo Region have raised concerns over poor conditions at the trading centre, warning that the situation is affecting both their businesses and health.
During a visit by the Ahafo Regional Minister to engage traders and thank them for supporting the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Akosua Asantewaa, the garden egg queen mother, and Susanna Adjei, the yam queen mother, highlighted several challenges.
They cited inadequate urinals, poor toilet facilities, dusty and unpaved roads within the market, and insufficient security, claiming theft from locked cupboards has become common.
“These challenges are making life very difficult for us. Our health is at risk, and business is suffering. We are pleading with the minister and the municipal assembly to take urgent steps to fix these problems,” the women said.
In response, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asunafo North, Joseph Akparibo, assured traders that their concerns are being addressed.
He revealed that the Goaso market has been selected for the government’s 24-Hour Economy Market project, with construction expected to start soon.
“All the issues you have raised will be resolved under the project. We are asking for your patience as we prepare to roll out construction,” Mr. Akparibo said.
