
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Sofo Azorka, in connection with an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman during the Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025.
In a statement signed by DSP David Fianko Okyere, Head of Public Affairs for the Command, police disclosed that Alhaji Azorka was arrested in Tamale on September 10, 2025, as part of ongoing investigations into the incident.
The statement said a caution statement had been taken from the NDC executive, who has since been granted bail.
Alhaji Azorka is expected to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on September 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. for arraignment before court.
The Command assured the public of a thorough investigation and urged calm as the case progresses.
“Further developments will be communicated in due course,” the statement concluded.
