Bawumia vows constituency-Based Budget framework if elected President

Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to overhaul Ghana’s budget system by making it constituency-based if elected in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking to party executives in the Asante Akyem Zone of the Ashanti Region during his three-day zonal campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia argued that the current budget framework is too centralized and fails to reflect the unique priorities of local communities.

“It is time to ensure that each constituency sees its priorities captured in the national budget. This will allow us to equitably address the needs of all Ghanaians,” he stated.

The former Vice President also promised stronger support for private businesses. He expressed worry that Ghana currently operates only one duty-free zone, located in Tema, and pledged to change that.

“If elected, I will establish a duty-free zone in every regional capital to boost trade and drive economic growth across the country,” Dr. Bawumia assured.
