Mali coach Saintfiet confident Ghana will qualify for 2026 World Cup

Mali head coach Tom Saintfiet has expressed confidence in Ghana’s prospects of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite his team’s narrow 1-0 defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium in Matchday 8 of the qualifiers.

Alexander Djiku’s 49th-minute strike proved decisive, giving the Black Stars all three points and extending their lead at the top of Group I.

Speaking after the match, Saintfiet highlighted Ghana’s depth and experience as key factors that make them strong contenders to advance.

“Ghana has so many quality players,” Saintfiet said.

“Look at where the players are playing, look at the choices the coach has on the bench, look at the players who weren’t selected but were available. In theory, there can’t be any problem for Ghana to qualify as number one and to beat Comoros,” he added.

The win moves Ghana to 19 points atop Group I.

The Black Stars are set to conclude their qualifying campaign in October with crucial fixtures against the Central African Republic and Comoros.
