Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Yusif Sulemana, has formally petitioned the Minister for the Interior over reports of misconduct by security forces enforcing a curfew in Bole and nearby communities.
In a letter dated September 4, the MP raised concerns following complaints from the Arise Bole Youth, who accuse law enforcement officers of harassment, intimidation, and other abuses during curfew enforcement.
The petition highlighted two major allegations: dragging people from their homes and detaining them without lawful justification.
Witnesses reported cases of harassment, physical assault, and degrading treatment. Disturbingly, there is also an allegation that an elderly man lost his life after an encounter with the forces.
Alhaji Sulemana described the claims as alarming, insisting that such behaviour, if substantiated, undermines both public safety and confidence in the security system. He called for an urgent, transparent, and independent investigation to establish the facts.
He further urged security officers to act with professionalism and respect for human rights, reminding authorities that their role is to protect communities, not instill fear.
The Ministry of the Interior has imposed a curfew on Bole Township and its environs in the Savannah Region following heightened tensions over chieftaincy disputes.
The curfew, which took effect on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, will run daily from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.
According to a directive signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the decision was based on advice from the National Security Council through an Executive Instrument.
Government has urged chiefs, opinion leaders, and residents to exercise restraint and use peaceful means to resolve their grievances.
As part of the restrictions, there is a total ban on firearms, ammunition, and offensive weapons, with offenders to face arrest and prosecution.
