Rapper Medikal has visited the Chief of Sowutuom, Nii Osabu Akwei Ofoli I, to extend condolences to the royal family following the recent Homowo tragedy.
The incident claimed the lives of the chief’s son, popularly known as ‘Governor,’ and two others during clashes between rival factions over the sprinkling of kpokpoi.
Medikal, who grew up in Sowutuom, described the event as heartbreaking and expressed his sympathies to the bereaved family. He also apologized to the chief and elders for his prolonged absence from the community, acknowledging the role Sowutuom played in his upbringing.
“Sowutuom is a big part of my life. I was in conversation with the late prince about developmental projects for the area, so this loss is very personal to me,” Medikal said.
The rapper assured the chief of his commitment to supporting future initiatives that honor the late prince’s memory and contribute to the growth of Sowutuom.
The visit follows violent clashes that marred this year’s Homowo celebrations. According to the Accra Regional Police Command, the violence erupted during a dispute between factions loyal to two rival chiefs over the traditional festival dish, kpokpoi. The altercation escalated into gunfire, leaving three people dead and several others injured.
Police have launched intelligence-led operations to apprehend those responsible for the clashes.
