Krachi East MCE warns caretakers against misusing donations for PWDs

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi East in the Oti Region, Sarfo Nketia, has cautioned caretakers of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) against treating resources allocated to them as personal property.

Speaking at a donation ceremony, he stressed the need for integrity and accountability in managing items received on behalf of PWDs.

At the event, 143 PWDs received refrigerators, fufu pounding machines, industrial sewing machines, plastic chairs, and cash to support their welfare.

The programme was attended by the Chief of Dambai, Nana Kwaku Biano, the Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, and other dignitaries. It aimed to enhance the living conditions of PWDs and ensure they receive the support they deserve to thrive.

However, MCE Sarfo Nketia expressed concern about possible misuse of the donations by caretakers.

“These donations are not just items; they represent hope and support for our PWDs,” Nketia said. “It is crucial for caretakers to understand their role in safeguarding these resources and ensuring they are used for their intended purpose. Misappropriation of these items undermines the very essence of government efforts to uplift the lives of PWDs.”

For his part, Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong commended the government’s initiative, describing it as a step that will significantly improve the lives of vulnerable individuals.

He also urged other assemblies in the municipality to provide the necessary support to PWDs, helping them avoid the need to beg.
