Manchester United blocks Kobbie Mainoo’s summer transfer request

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the club blocked midfielder Kobbie Mainoo’s proposed move this summer.

The 19-year-old, who struggled for form at the start of the season, reportedly requested a transfer following United’s 2-1 EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town on Wednesday. Clubs across Europe, including Napoli, had expressed interest, but United opted to retain the English midfielder of Ghanaian descent.

Speaking ahead of United’s home clash against Burnley at Old Trafford, Amorim emphasised Mainoo’s importance to the squad.

“I want Kobbie to stay. We need Kobbie, but he needs to fight for his place, and my position is not going to change,” he stated.

Mainoo, who was also linked with Chelsea in January before that move fell through, has already cemented himself as a first-team contributor. He has made 73 senior appearances for United, recording seven goals and three assists.

Under contract until June 2027, with an option for an additional year, Mainoo remains central to United’s long-term plans. His current market value is estimated at €50 million, reflecting his potential and growing influence at the club.
