
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has congratulated the five aspirants who have successfully filed their nominations to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries.
The NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee confirmed that the following five aspirants submitted their nomination forms:

Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong

Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong

Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong

H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
The party is set to hold its internal elections on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, August 28, the Effutu MP described the move by the aspirants as an important milestone in strengthening the NPP’s democratic culture and traditions.
“I extend my warm congratulations to all five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) who have successfully filed and submitted their nomination forms,” he wrote.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin also urged the aspirants and their supporters to prioritize unity and mutual respect throughout the campaign.
“As we move into the next phase of the process, I urge all aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns with decorum, unity, and mutual respect,” he said.
“Let us avoid divisive tendencies and remain focused on the bigger goal of building a stronger NPP and advancing our national development.”
He concluded with a reference to the party’s symbol: “Indeed, the ELEPHANT is a winning symbol!”
