NADMO declares war on illegal sand winning at Gomoa Fetteh seashore

Central Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Kwesi Dawood

The Central Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Kwesi Dawood, has vowed to clamp down on illegal sand winning activities along the Fetteh seashore in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

Mr. Dawood said the operations at Gomoa Fetteh, Nyanyano, and Gomoa Dampase are destroying the natural sea defense system, posing a serious threat to more than 20 coastal communities, including Kasoa township.

Speaking to Adom News during a tour with the Gomoa East District Assembly, he revealed that a special security taskforce will soon be deployed to patrol the coastline and arrest perpetrators.

“We will not allow any group of people to cause a natural disaster in the Gomoa East District,” he warned.

Gomoa East District Chief Executive, Margaret Naana Ackom, also cautioned that no individual will be spared if found culpable—whether a chief, political figure, or resident—as the Assembly is determined to protect lives and property.

Meanwhile, some residents expressed frustration over the destruction and appealed to traditional leaders to support government’s efforts to curb the menace.
