GoldBod introduces special bonus to boost licensed miners, curb smuggling

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has introduced a temporary bonus of GHS832 per pound of gold for all licensed miners nationwide.

The initiative, which took effect on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, is part of efforts to motivate miners while curbing the menace of gold smuggling.

With the bonus in place, a pound of gold that previously sold for GHS8,868 on the local market will now go for GHS9,700.

GoldBod explained that the intervention comes in response to concerns raised by miners about the recent decline in local gold prices, a trend largely attributed to the appreciation of the Ghana cedi.

In a statement signed by its Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minka, the Board said the bonus is meant to shield miners from the negative impact of currency fluctuations while recognizing their role in sustaining gold output and foreign exchange earnings for the country.

The Board has further directed all its licensed traders nationwide to ensure the immediate and timely payment of the bonus to eligible miners.
