Gbenyiri clashes: My family is under attack; several houses burnt – Sawla-Tuna-Kalba MP [Audio]

The Member of Parliament for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Andrew Chiwetey, has described the situation in parts of his constituency as dire following clashes in Gbenyiri that have claimed at least 10 lives and left several others injured.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Chiwetey revealed that houses in Kalba town continue to be torched in what he described as targeted attacks against members of the Birifor community.

“My own family has not been spared. My uncle’s house in Sawla has already been destroyed, and attempts were made to burn my house and my mother’s house, but the police intervened in time,” he recounted.

He lamented the destruction and called for urgent measures to restore peace and protect innocent residents.

The ongoing violence stems from a land dispute in Gbenyiri, which escalated into deadly confrontations over the weekend.

Security forces, including reinforcement teams from the Ghana Police Service and the Armed Forces, have since been deployed to restore calm.
