Ghana has reiterated its readiness to attract more foreign investments as President John Dramani Mahama led a high-level delegation to the Presidential Investment Forum on the sidelines of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Japan.
The event, themed “Ghana is Open for Business—Unleashing Investment Opportunities for Shared Prosperity,” brought together government officials, Japanese business leaders, and international investors to explore new collaborations and deepen trade ties between the two countries.
In his address, President Mahama highlighted Ghana’s advantages as a business destination, citing political stability, democratic governance, and a strategic position as a gateway to the African market. He also noted that improving macroeconomic indicators and a business-friendly environment make Ghana an attractive hub for regional and global investors.
“Exporting from Ghana now means access to about 1.4 billion consumers across Africa,” he said, referencing opportunities created by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
President Mahama acknowledged Japanese firms already operating in Ghana, including companies assembling Toyota and other vehicle brands for local use and export. He encouraged investors to explore agriculture, pointing to the country’s vast arable land and irrigation potential, and assured that Ghana’s investment agencies are ready to support foreign partners seeking to establish operations.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized the government’s focus on economic diplomacy to attract investment and spur growth. He highlighted the recent strengthening of the Ghanaian cedi and the positive economic outlook it has generated.
“We are creating a safe and enabling environment for businesses while ensuring that investments translate into real benefits for our people,” Mr. Ablakwa said, commending Japanese companies such as Toyota Tsusho, Honda, and Suzuki for their contributions to Ghana’s industrial development.
The forum was attended by Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, chief executives of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, alongside top business executives from both Ghana and Japan.
