The Presidency has announced that the Children’s Support Fund, established to cater for the dependents of victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash, has so far mobilized GH¢2.315 million.
Launched by President John Mahama on August 15, the fund is aimed at providing sustained financial and welfare assistance for children who lost parents in the tragic incident.
Stanbic Bank Ghana made the first contribution of GH¢500,000 as seed money.
Since then, several corporate organizations—including Procus GH Limited, GB Foods Ghana, Sunda FM Manufacturing Ltd, Sage Distribution Ltd, Quantum Oil Terminals, Quantum LPG Logistics Ltd, Newgas Cylinder Ltd, and Quantum Terminals PLC—have made additional donations.
This was contained in a statement issued by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund.
Dr. Sawyerr explained that contributions can be made through dedicated Stanbic Bank Ghana accounts in both cedis and dollars.
She further assured that, for accountability and transparency, the list of donors will be published weekly.
The initiative was rolled out in response to the August 6 crash, which claimed several lives, including those of two cabinet ministers. According to the Presidency, the money raised will be used to guarantee consistent care and long-term support for the affected children.
