Former Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng has reached an agreement to become the new head coach of Belgian third-tier club RAEC Mons.

Boateng will sign a three-year deal with the club.

The 49-year-old former Dutch international has been without a club since leaving Coventry City in November 2024, following the appointment of Frank Lampard.

Before his stint in English football management, Boateng was part of the Ghana national team’s technical setup. He served as an assistant coach during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

However, following the national team’s disappointing performance, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) dissolved the entire senior technical team.

Boateng retired from professional football in 2013 after spells in England with Coventry City, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest.

He has previously held head coaching roles with Malaysian side Kelantan and also served as head coach of Aston Villa’s U-23 team.
