GoldBod begins nationwide enforcement of mandatory receipt system for licensed gold buyers

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has commenced nationwide enforcement of its directive requiring all licensed gold buyers to issue official GoldBod receipts for every transaction.

The enforcement follows a period of postponements and a grace period that allowed traders to regularise their operations and obtain the necessary licences.

In a statement on Monday, August 18, 2025, GoldBod emphasised that the issuance of receipts is mandatory for licensed aggregators, self-financed aggregators, and Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers. The initiative aims to enhance transparency and strengthen regulation in Ghana’s gold trade.

To ensure compliance, the Board has deployed a task force and field inspectors across the country. Licensed buyers are required to present their receipt booklets for verification and fully cooperate with inspection teams.

GoldBod urged small-scale miners and traders to always demand official receipts for transactions, warning that failure to issue them is a serious offence that could lead to sanctions, including suspension or revocation of licences.

The Board also advised licensed buyers needing assistance to secure receipt booklets to contact its Licensing and Regulatory Unit via the dedicated hotlines.
