Ghana recorded a total of 5,585 fire outbreaks between January and November 2025, marking a marginal reduction compared to the same period in 2024.
Data from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) show that fire incidents declined from 5,597 cases in 2024 to 5,585 in 2025, representing a reduction of 12 cases, or 0.21 per cent.
According to the GNFS, the slight decrease is largely attributed to intensified public education on fire safety and prevention campaigns carried out across the country.
Despite the improvement, Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong has issued a warning to property owners who fail to comply with fire safety regulations, particularly mandatory inspection and certification requirements.
She cautioned that the Service will begin enforcing the law more rigorously against individuals and institutions that neglect required fire inspections.
“We will start cracking the whip on people who do not come for inspection and certification of their properties,” she said.
The GNFS noted that the move is intended to strengthen fire prevention measures, improve compliance with safety standards and ultimately reduce the frequency and impact of fire outbreaks nationwide.
