2026 World Cup: Government owes Ghanaians smooth visa process – Kwakye Ofosu

-

Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring smooth visa processing for Ghanaians traveling to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Abura Asebu-Kwamankese MP said the government aims to enable as many supporters as possible to attend the tournament, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Kwakye Ofosu’s comments follow Ghana’s qualification for the World Cup and recent meetings between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officials from the US Embassy and the Canadian High Commission. The discussions, held earlier in October, involved the Ministry of Sports, the Ghana Football Association, and senior Foreign Affairs officials to plan coordinated visa arrangements.

“As a government, we have a duty to always look out for the interests of the people of Ghana. The Foreign Ministry has acted proactively by engaging the relevant authorities in the host countries to ensure the visa process for Ghanaians is smooth,” he told Joy Sports.

He added that Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s engagement with the embassies had been productive and yielded encouraging feedback.

“My discussions with the Foreign Minister indicate that it went well, and he is pleased with the progress made,” Kwakye Ofosu said.

Ablakwa also confirmed on social media that a similar meeting would be held with Mexican officials to finalise Ghana’s comprehensive visa facilitation plan for fans.
