2026 WCQ: We are not there yet – Otto Addo cautions after Mali win

Ghana coach Otto Addo has urged his players and supporters to remain focused as the Black Stars edge closer to securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The four-time African champions bounced back from a frustrating 1-1 draw with Chad last week to secure a narrow 1-0 victory over Mali in their Matchday 8 qualifier on Monday night at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Alexander Djiku’s second-half strike proved decisive, propelling Ghana to the top of Group I with 19 points.

With just two games left, Ghana need only one more win to confirm their place at next year’s tournament. However, Addo cautioned against complacency despite the team’s progress.

“Everybody was talking before the Chad game that we had already won. It’s dangerous. We are not at the World Cup yet,” Addo said after the game.

“We have a lot of work to do, and every opponent must be respected,” he added.

The Black Stars will travel to face the Central African Republic in their next fixture before concluding their qualifying campaign with a home clash against Comoros in October.
