2026 WCQ: Djiku, Paintsil to miss Chad encounter – GFA

Alexander Djiku

Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that Joseph Paintsil and Alexander Djiku will miss the Black Stars’ Matchday 7 clash against Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Both players were included in coach Otto Addo’s squad for the double-header against Chad and Mali but did not travel with the team to N’Djamena on Tuesday.

According to the GFA, Paintsil arrived in Accra on Wednesday after missing his connecting flight from New York due to a delayed departure from Los Angeles. Djiku, on the other hand, is in Moscow finalizing a contract move and is expected to arrive in Accra on Friday.

As a result, 22 players are currently with the team in Chad for Thursday’s game at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno.

Both Paintsil and Djiku are expected to be available for Ghana’s Matchday 8 fixture against Mali on Monday, September 8, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars currently top Group I with 15 points as they aim to secure a fifth World Cup appearance.
