2026 WCQ: Chad v Ghana preview

The Black Stars of Ghana return to action in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Thursday, September 4, when they face Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno in N’Djamena. Kick-off is at 13:00 GMT.

Ghana head into the clash on the back of successive victories over Chad and Madagascar in the previous round, results that propelled them to the top of Group I with 15 points. Another win on Thursday would further cement their chances of booking a ticket to next year’s World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

For Chad, the campaign has been one to forget. Les Sao have lost all six of their matches without collecting a single point. They have scored just once and conceded 15 goals. Their last outing in March—a narrow 1-0 defeat to Comoros—showed some defensive resilience, but an attack that has fired blanks in five of six qualifiers remains their biggest concern.

Head coach Raoul Savoy will once again rely on striker Marius Mouandilmadji, captain Ezechiel N’Douassel, and midfielder Ahmat Abderamane to inspire his side, though Chad’s defensive frailties—averaging 2.5 goals conceded per game—suggest they may be more focused on damage limitation than an upset.

Ghana, by contrast, boast one of the most potent attacking lines in the group, having scored 15 goals in six games. With Mohammed Kudus pulling the strings, Thomas Partey marshalling the midfield, and Jordan Ayew in fine scoring form, Otto Addo’s side look well-equipped to continue their momentum.

Addo’s 24-man squad combines experience with youth, featuring established stars like Partey, Kudus, Ayew, and Inaki Williams, alongside the returning Tariq Lamptey, Union Berlin’s Derrick Arthur Kohn, and FC Nordsjaelland’s Caleb Yirenkyi. Chad’s 24-man squad leans heavily on defensive options such as Ebenezer Ngardial and Yves Allarabaye, while Haroun Tchaouna and Amine Hiver are expected to carry their attacking hopes.
