Deputy Minister for Finance and Chairman of the World Cup Fundraising Subcommittee, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has revealed that the government is targeting $30 million to back the Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup campaign this summer.
The fundraising drive was officially launched at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra on Friday, March 20, with President John Mahama in attendance.
Ampem described the initiative as a central component of Ghana’s strategy to ensure the national team has the resources needed to compete at the highest level.
At the launch, Ibrahim Mahama’s company, Engineers & Planners, pledged $5 million to support the campaign.
Music stars Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy also committed $100,000 and $101,000, respectively, while Gold Fields promised $2 million immediately, with an additional $1 million slated for next year.
Several other corporate entities have also made pledges to aid the Black Stars’ preparations.
The fundraising subcommittee plans to engage corporate Ghana, private stakeholders, and international partners to reach the $30 million goal.
The funds will go toward logistics, player welfare, and overall team preparation ahead of the tournament.
The initiative reflects a renewed commitment to ensuring the Black Stars are fully equipped to make a strong showing on the global stage.
The Black Stars will kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
