Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has been included in the Black Stars’ technical team for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed.
The Swedish tactician is one of five new additions drafted into the technical setup as the GFA strengthens the backroom staff ahead of the global showpiece, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Björkegren’s appointment follows his impressive work with the Black Queens, whom he guided to a bronze medal finish at the delayed 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. He has also led the team to qualification for the 2026 WAFCON.
He is set to return to Morocco next month with the Black Queens for the 2026 continental tournament, where Ghana will be aiming to secure a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars are expected to regroup in March for international assignments against Austria and Germany as part of their preparations.
Ghana have been drawn into Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. After group-stage exits at the 2014 and 2022 World Cups in Brazil and Qatar respectively, the Black Stars will be hoping for a stronger showing on the world stage this time around.
