Morocco have secured a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final after a tense penalty shootout triumph over Nigeria at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Wednesday.
The match remained deadlocked at 0-0 after 120 minutes, despite a fiercely contested and physical battle between two of the tournament’s top sides.
Morocco dominated possession and created more opportunities, registering six shots to Nigeria’s single effort, but were unable to find the breakthrough in both regulation and extra time.
The outcome was decided from the penalty spot, where goalkeeper Yassine Bounou emerged as the decisive figure, saving attempts from Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi.
Morocco’s spot-kick takers—Neil El Aynaoui, Eliesse Ben Seghir, Achraf Hakimi, and Youssef En-Nesyri—converted with precision, securing a 4–2 shootout victory.
The win sets up a highly anticipated final against Senegal, who edged past Egypt 1–0 in the other semifinal.
The title decider is scheduled for Sunday, January 18, at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with kickoff at 19:00 GMT.
