The Matchday 16 fixtures of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League delivered a weekend of surprises and emphatic results across the country.

Hearts of Oak kicked off the round on Friday with a narrow but vital 1-0 victory over FC Samartex at the University of Ghana Stadium. A first-half strike from Hamza Issah proved decisive as the Phobians held on for all three points.

On Saturday, Medeama SC claimed a slim away win over Heart of Lions at the Kpando Sports Stadium. Kingsley Braye’s 20th-minute effort was enough to secure maximum points for the Yellow and Mauve side.

Vision FC also enjoyed a memorable afternoon at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex, edging FC Samartex 1-0. Setsofia Agetey struck just before half-time to hand the hosts a hard-fought victory.

Sunday’s action saw Basake Holy Stars record a comfortable 2-0 win over Hohoe United at the AAK II Park, with goals from Prince Tweneboah and Simba Sylvester sealing the result.

At the Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea produced a spirited comeback to defeat Eleven Wonders 3-1. Willian Danquah gave the visitors an early lead in the 15th minute, but Prince Anane levelled for Chelsea just before the break. The hosts then took control after the interval, scoring twice to wrap up the win.

Defending champions Bibiani GoldStars also came from behind to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory over 10-man Dreams FC. Abdul Razak Salifu’s first-half brace put Dreams in control, but GoldStars mounted a strong second-half response. Barimah Baah pulled one back in the 74th minute before Emmanuel Boateng Agyenim equalised five minutes later. Baah then completed the turnaround deep into stoppage time with a 97th-minute winner.

At the Swedru Sports Stadium, Swedru All Blacks and Karela United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. After a goalless first half, Ayikabia Solomon Anyork Nereba opened the scoring for the hosts in the 64th minute, but Malik Abubakar restored parity six minutes later.

Young Apostles and Aduana FC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Wenchi Sports Stadium, while Asante Kotoko were the standout performers of the weekend after demolishing Bechem United 6-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Morifing Donzo set the tone with an early opener in the ninth minute before skipper Samba O’Neil doubled the lead in the 22nd minute. Donzo added his second just before half-time to make it 3-0. After the break, Hubert Gyau, Johnson Owusu and Kwame Opoku added further goals to complete the rout.

Following the conclusion of Matchday 16, Asante Kotoko, Medeama SC, Aduana FC and Hearts of Oak occupy the top four positions on the league table, while Hohoe United, Bechem United and Eleven Wonders remain rooted in the relegation zone.
