5 in critical condition, 13 injured after Kia truck ploughs into crowd during float in Agona Asafo

Five people are in critical condition and 13 others injured after a Kia truck loaded with coconuts ran into a crowd during a float at Agona Asafo in the Agona East District of the Central Region.

According to the Assembly Member for Agona Asafo Electoral Area, Ishmael Odoom, the community annually organizes a football gala to open its Akwanbo Festival.

After the tournament, the winning team and their supporters usually hold a float through the principal streets as part of the celebration.

He explained that while the jubilant crowd was on the float, the Kia truck, which was carrying coconuts, failed to stop despite seeing the large gathering and crashed into them.

Mr. Odoom said 18 people were injured on the spot and rushed to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital, where five remain in critical condition.
